Zero Punctuation: the rip-offs!

Anyone with a passing interest in the videogame internets will have caught the very mighty Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw's weekly video reviews. If not, check 'em out, very funny, very cool, yes we wish he worked for GamesRadar… Anyhow, unless you spend all your free time poking around in the neatherbelly of YouTube, you may not have seen the bastard offspring of Yahtzee's crude animation style and nimble-mouthed swear-mongering.

Put simply, loads of people have ripped him off. They've stolen the visual style. They've attempted the breakneck-babble. They've shoehorned a rather sweet jewel of originality into a number of videos that'll leave you either red-faced with fury or red faced with embarrassment. Tags:

MCV: EA’s The Sims Studio is looking to lure traditional gamers to the next installment in the franchise, The Sims 3, with more ‘goal-orientated’ gameplay.

Speaking exclusively to MCV, the division’s creative director Rod Humble also revealed that his MMO background would help the franchise move away from its simulation past.

“I think there is a lot more ‘gamer-ness’ in The Sims 3,” said Humble. “The team has added a lot more challenge and depth for gamers.

Ninja Gaiden Producer: Video Games Depict Only 10 Percent Of Ninja Lifestyle

MTV Multiplayer met with Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword producer Yosuke Hayashi twice last Thursday: the first time at his hotel on Manhattan’s east side to talk ninja gaming, the second to show him New York City as viewed from the 29th floor of the MTV News offices in Times Square.

This is what MTV Multiplayer learned:

- Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword is good enough for Hayashi’s mom.
- Ninja Gaiden DS was made to be played with the DS held vertically (book-style) to help lefties.
- Hayashi can spot people playing his game in public without seeing the screen.
- The game is designed to move at the pace of penmanship.
- Tecmo won’t share their DS knowledge with other developers; wants to be challenged.
- Hayashi doesn’t want to stop working on the DS.
- Dozens - hundreds - of ninja-based video games have barely scratched the surface of the ninja lifestyle. Tags:

QuickJump Quicklist: Seven types of girl gamers

March 31st, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in xbox360 - Invoid, Gaming News
It's true: female gamers do exist (the shock!). Just like male gamers who come in different shapes, sizes and flavors, we can come up with a diverse list of girl gamer types. No, Frag Dolls and 6-year-olds fascinated by the Wii don't count. South Korean StarCraft fangirls were tempting to add, but we decided to cut them from the list since we can't tell if they actually play games or just read magazines to drool over the pros.

If you ever need a brief guide on the who and the what of female gamer types, this QuickList is for you. No need to put up those flame spears, because we don't have anything against those who don't fall under our categories. Furthermore, apologies go to our female readers who weren't covered, but right now, here are the more prominent types we've seen of our beloved industry's non-male audience.

Hardcore Gamer - You don't need a pair to kill Altima in Final Fantasy Tactics with one blow or defeat Metatron from Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne without losing your sanity. While the hardcore who would go discuss their "1337" gameplay tactics and strategies on notorious message boards almost never expect to run across girls, it is a fact that the male dominated scene of spending hundreds of hours to kill secret bosses and pull off insane Achievements for bragging rights is not without the presence of the opposite gender.
