Ah, Konami, you tease us so. Is the green a reference to the 360? Are the exclamation marks a reference to the Wii, or Ac!d, or the DS? Is that a PC power button?

Americas Sales for the Week Ending November 29, 2008

December 5th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in PS3 - Invoid, Gaming News
Black Friday sales for the video game industry were excellent. Nintendo sold 1.8m systems for the week ending November 29 while machines from rivals Microsoft and Sony combined to sell about 1.1m units. Software sales were quite strong as well, but the vast majority of the spike this week is simply from the fact that Americans spent $10 billion ($30/per American if every American shopped) on Black Friday according to various reports, and a lot of that went to video games. Last year, Black Friday week sales were strong as well, but Wii, DS, and Xbox 360 saw significantly better sales this year. PS3 had the weakest Black Friday to Black Friday growth, at 13%, and PS2 declined. Sony's machines accounted for about 1 out of 3 video game machines sold (31%) during Black Friday week in 2007, this year that ratio is down to about 2 out of 9 (22%) as the shares for Microsoft and Nintendo increase. Since Black Friday was at a different point in 2008 than in 2007, two comparisons are included below for the year over year trend. First though, a look at the size of the increases from last week show that value wins out over the holidays, as PS2 and DS had the biggest jumps despite being the oldest viable platforms on the market.

That Gaming Site Writes: "I play real Guitar and Guitar Hero.

Being a fan of both, I've been subject to numerous arguments over and over about how playing Guitar Hero or Rock Band is a waste of time and that 'nerds' should try picking up a real instrument and do something productive for a change. It was in this week's edition of NME (a British Indie Music Publication) that brought me this comment, in an article that........"

IGN : Where the Hell,PSN??!!

IGN Playstation Team writes "As far as the PSN is concerned, Sony's fledgling service has had serious ups and downs in its two year existence. In many ways, the largest advantage is that PS3 owners get an online service, complete with browsers and search engine, as well as messaging and friends lists for free. The inclusion of Life with PlayStation (which is the evolution of the widely acclaimed Folding@Home project) was a great touch, and the recent addition of Trophies provides bragging rights and rewards for playing PS3 games. Even the video and voice chat is an excellent option for friends that want to communicate. "

Midway may be in for fatality: stocks fall 40%

December 5th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in PS3 - Invoid, Gaming News
Midway Games, the studio behind the Mortal Kombat franchise, has been shoulder deep in financial troubles lately, and is currently facing delisting from the New York Stock Exchange.

It's gotten so bad that a private investor was able to buy 87% of shares for only US$ 100,000. The purchase was hoped to pull Midway out of its spiral of doom, but that's not the case.

Midway's share price fell to a new low of 23 cents, down almost 40% from Monday's peak. The company is still heavily in debt, although Mark Thomas, the guy who dished out the hundred grand from a controlling stake in the company, is reported to dish out US$ 70 million to cover some of the debt. Looks like he didn't get the company for cheap after all.
