Who’s winning the quality war?

December 4th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Wii - Invoid, Gaming News
In the past few days there have been a lot of articles talking about who has been making the most money and which games has sold the most. The fact is that whichever company ends up with the biggest pot of cash wins, those are the simple rules of running a corporate empire.

However to us as gamers the most important thing is which platform gives us the best gaming experience. Now we could be logical and say that this is more a matter of personal taste than anything but then this article would end here and I need to stick in another 100 words..

Spong Write: But apparently only in Japan.

Microsoft's Shane Kim* has been speaking to Reuters about the Xbox 360, Christmas, the opposition and the future. In doing so, he's finally come out and said that the Xbox 360 is competing with Nintendo if only in Japan.

Kim explained that, "We continue to focus tremendously internationally, Europe in particular is a very big area of focus for us," before continuing, "Japan has always been an important market for us. That's an interesting challenge because you're competing with Sony and Nintendo on their home turf there".

The 5 Final Smashes that Everyone Fears

From WiiRincontrol:

The addition of the Final Smash to the Super Smash Bros franchise definitely brings a heretofore unseen level of urgency when it comes to items on the game. (Which is quite a feat considering that the hammer has always been available). As soon as a Smash Ball shows up, everyone involved immediately sells out in order to ensure that they end up possessing its power. Or often more importantly, that their opponents don't. A definitive list of the most feared Final Smashes is not really possible, since opinions vary. But here are 5 Final Smashes that everyone fears, and grudgingly respects.

A Most Bizarre Newspaper Headline

Issue of the UK's Daily Mail dated Saturday, November 29, 2008. Headline says: "1,000 Free Game Consoles PLAYSTATION 3, Xbox 360, SEGA Mega Drive, Wii...and more." It's like a game of odd man out. Which doesn't belong?

While it might be slightly humorous that the Daily Mail seems to think the Mega Drive is a current gen console, that isn't even the kicker. The kicker is the headline directly below:

Babies are being beaten to death, but the Met can spare 20 officers to raid homes...

Advice for gamers about to become parents

December 4th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Wii - Invoid, Gaming News
G&M game reporter provides five bits of advice/wisdom for gamers soon to become dads and moms. Number four from his list:

Your stereo might go up to 11, but you won't. You know that 700-watt surround sound system that lets you hear when tentacled heads are quietly skittering up behind you in Dead Space? Enjoy it while you can, because once the bambino arrives it will become sorely underused. There's only one sound more beautiful than a noisy, lifelike, video game audioscape, and that is the gentle breathing of a sleeping baby. And forget about headphones; they defeat the purpose of the baby monitor you spent $100 on meant to ensure you are alerted when your tyke is in distress.

Well, if you're a fan of the movie, like me, you may already know that Ghostbusters is more about jokes then scares, but there also was a creepy side to it. I mean that's what made Ghostbusters, Ghostbusters. And what should make the game any different?
